In our review of the Google Chromecast, a compact media streamer that plugs directly into your TV’s HDMI port, we lamented its limited app support. Now, Google has expanded this list and added 10 more apps.
The new additions include Vevo (a music video website), Red Bull.TV, Songza (a music streaming service), PostTV (videos from The Washington Post), Viki (a Singapore-based media streaming website with a good selection of Korean and Taiwanese dramas, and Japanese anime), Revision 3, and BeyondPod.
But what about your own media content? A trio of them are now supported: Plex, Avia, and RealPlayer Cloud.
According to Google, the latest version of these apps for Android and iOS will be 'rolling out over the next few days'.
The Chromecast typically costs US$35 straight from Google. Alternatively, you can buy and ship it from Amazon. If you’ve missed Amazon’s US$30 Black Friday deal, the online retailer is now selling the dongle for US$32.88.
