A fully decked Surface Book costs as much as a fully decked 15-inch MacBook Pro

When Microsoft announced the Surface Book two weeks ago, the company said that the laptop can be decked with up to 1TB of SSD storage. But when pre-orders started soon after, this particular config was nowhere to be seen.

For those who just don’t settle for second-best, know that the ultimate version of Microsoft’s ultimate laptop is now ready for pre-order on the U.S. Microsoft Store. Sporting an Intel Core i7-6600U ‘Skylake’ CPU with Intel HD 520 graphics, custom NVIDIA GPU with 1GB GDDR5 VRAM, 16GB RAM, and of course, 1TB of PCIe-based SSD, this highest-end Surface Book config will set you back US$3,199.

To lend some perspective, know that a souped-up 15-inch MacBook Pro with a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7-4980HQ CPU (Haswell/Crystalwell, by the way) with Intel Iris Pro graphics, AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2GB GDDR5, 16GB RAM, and 1TB PCIe-based flash storage also costs an eye-watering US$3,199; or S$4,268 if you were to buy from the Singapore Apple Store today.

All that said, there's no word yet on whether the Surface Book will come to Singapore. At the moment, only the Surface Pro 4 is confirmed, with pre-orders for it having already started. In fact, if you want to get the Surface Pro 4, I suggest that you take advantage of the pre-order promo, as there are rumors that its price will increase in the near future.
