Flipboard for Android Enters Beta Version
Flipboard for Android Enters Beta Version
While the unofficial version of Flipboard has been made available for almost a month, the developers behind the official version have recently pushed out a beta version for all Android users to download. If you are an Android user and wish to try it out, do drop by the Flipboard for Android website and sign up for it.
According to Android Community, the developers stated that the intention behind releasing a beta version is to test out the app on Android devices with different screen resolutions. The exclusive debut of Flipboard at the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III was to provide a seamless and consistent experience for the users. The developers also made no mention of which Android devices are selected for the testing and when it will start rolling out the official app for Android.
We tested the beta version on different Android devices and found that it seems to be designed to work on Android 4.0 devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S III and the HTC One X. Widget support is present on both Samsung phones but not the HTC One X.
When we tried it on Android devices running on Gingerbread 2.3 such as the HTC Desire HD and Sensation XL, an error message popped up indicating that the devices do not meet minimum requirements and therefore, will not be supported by Flipboard. However, we were still able to use the app smoothly. The Flipboard widget also can be used on both devices.
It seems that there is much work to be done on the developers' side to ensure that the official Flipboard app is supported on devices running Android 2.3 and up, since the majority of Android devices in the market are still running on Gingerbread.
