If you can’t buy them, copy them. At least that seems to be Facebook’s playbook when it comes to Snapchat. Since its failed acquisition of the photo messaging app and unsuccessful attempt to mimic it with Poke and Slingshot, Facebook has now decided to include similar features in its original app, bringing support for swipe-to-preview photo filters, stickers, and text overlays.

In true Facebook fashion, the new feature is currently in testing with select iOS users, but there are no details as to just how many users currently have the new photo uploader. Facebook’s Android app already has text and sticker overlays, but it notably lacks any photo filters.

iOS users with the new interface will see a vertical line across their photo, which they can swipe either left or right to compare before and after effects of their chosen filter. Users can choose to quickly correct color with Auto color correct, or opt for one of many Instagram-esque filters with names like Vintage, Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Tapping a flashing magic wand button at the bottom left corner of the photo brings up the new enhancement tray, complete with tabs for filters, tags, text, cropping, and stickers.

Facebook silently rolls out new features to a limited subset of users for testing quite regularly. These new features often undergo considerable tweaking and many of them don't even make it to general release, so we wouldn't be surprised if the final version that rolls out to all users turns out to be quite different.
