Formerly known as "Project Phire", Corning just announced its official branding - the Gorilla Glass SR+.

Designed specifically for wearable devices, the Gorilla Glass SR+ is stated to be a new glass composite which can better withstand bumps, knocks and scrapes while maintaining optical clarity and touch sensitivity.

In its labs test, Corning claims that Gorilla Glass SR+ showed superior scratch resistance comparable to that of alternative luxury cover materials (yes, it is likely to be referring to sapphire), delivered up to 70% better damage resistance against impacts and 25% better surface reflection.

Gorilla Glass SR+ is commercially available and is expected to be featured in wearable devices from leading global brands later this year. Will the upcoming Apple Watch models be using this?
