A lot of gaming mice in the market are large and generally better suited to the palm grip. So if you have smaller hands or favor the claw grip, your options may be slightly more limited. But as of today, Cooler Master has a new option for you in the form of the Xornet II, a compact, ergonomic gaming mouse designed especially for claw-grip gamers.

Compared to Cooler Master’s other claw grip mice like the Spawn and original Xornet, the Xornet II comes with an improved optical sensor and a full 16.9 million color illuminated scroll wheel. It also supports on-the-fly DPI adjustments and lift-off distance tuning via software. And as an ergonomic instead of ambidextrous mouse, there are ridges extending from its right edge for you to rest your ring finger and pinky.

The maximum supported DPI has also been increased to 3,500DPI, up from the 2,000DPI on the Avago 3050 sensor used in the first Xornet. The new mouse uses an Avago 3320 optical sensor and comes with three preset DPI controls. You can customize the DPI steps from anywhere between 500DPI and 3,500DPI with Cooler Master’s software, but you’re currently limited to increments (or decrements) of 250DPI.

In addition, the color of the RGB scroll wheel can be set to match your current DPI settings, so you’ll know your exact sensitivity at all times. There’s also the ability to tune the sensor to your playing surface – are you using a soft or hard pad? – to get the best possible experience. We don’t have any hard evidence to confirm that this tuning feature actually makes a tangible difference, but other manufacturers like Razer also offer this, so Cooler Master is just keeping up with the competition.

The Xornet II comes with seven programmable buttons, including two side thumb buttons. And as is pretty much the standard for a lot of gaming mice these days, the Xornet II features Omron switches that are rated for up to five million clicks.

The mouse is now available to buy at local retailers for S$55.
