Consumer Reports stands by its findings, will not re-run testing on MacBook Pro
In case you missed this story, Consumer Reports (CR) did not recommend Apple's latest Macbook Pros for the first time due to inconsistent battery performance during its testing. That led many publications including 9to5Mac to speculate on whether CR's testing methodology is accurate and if a re-running of tests is necessary. However, CR refused to back down and stood by its findings.
CR's director of electronics testing Maria Rerecich reached out to 9to5Mac and stated the company's position; there is nothing wrong with the way they run the tests and extremely high battery life results are not unusual. Rerecich also reiterated that CR is "working collaboratively" with Apple to understand the lower battery life findings and will provide an update if and when there is a need to.
The thumbs-down by CR caught Apple by surprise with Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller tweeting that the results did not match Apple's extensive lab tests or field data. During our review and testing of the 15-inch MacBook Pro, we also found that the laptop isn't quite as power efficient as it should have been. We certainly hope that the ongoing investigations by Apple and CR would provide some answers.
