While flexible smartphones and displays have been teased by Apple, CorningLG and Samsung for many years, none actually made it to the consumer market. However, a small Chinese startup claims that it is ready to bring a smartphone with a flexible display by the end of this year.

According to CNN Money, Chinese startup Moxi Group has already produced a prototype of the device and aims to produce 100,000 units for sale in China by the end of the year. The phone reportedly uses graphene which is the thinnest material in the world yet strong, light, transparent and flexible. This allows the phone to be worn like a bracelet or stretched flat like a conventional smartphone.

The first version of the phone will only come in a black and white display due to technical challenges. A full-color model will be made available by 2018. The black and white model is estimated to be priced at 5,000 yuan (~S$1,050).
