Canon refreshes its LV series of portable projectors with 5 new 3,000-lumen models

Canon has just refreshed its LV series of portable projectors with five new models: the LV-WX300, LV-X300, LV-S300, and short throw models LV-WX300ST and LV-X300ST.

Armed with DLP’s (Digital Light Processing) BrilliantColor technology, and up to 3,000 lumens of brightness across all models, the projectors are able to project images with richer and brighter colors (due to a 6-color wheel) for extended hours, and yet achieve low operational costs with minimum maintenance. According to Canon, when used in Eco mode, the lamp used by these projectors can last about 6,000 hours. Furthermore, the two short-throw models will come in handy when space is at a premium, thanks to their short projection distance. And since the new projectors support the DLP-Link system, they make for inexpensive 3D projectors too.

LV-WX300ST and LV-X300ST

To be more specific, the 2.8kg LV-WX300ST is a short throw widescreen projector with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, and can project a 120-inch image at 1.26m from the screen, or a 70-inch image at just 0.74m away. The LV-X300ST (which also weighs 2.8kg) has a native resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels, and is able to deliver a 120-inch image at 1.48m from the screen, or a 60-inch image at 0.74m.

The main difference between the two short throw models is their resolution: the LV-WX300ST's 1,200 x 800, while the LV-X300ST's 1,024 x 768.

LV-WX300, LV-X300 & LV-S300

The non-short throw LV-WX300 is also a WXGA widescreen projector, with an effective resolution of 1,280 x 800. It can project a 150-inch image at 4.85m from the screen, or a 60-inch image at just 1.94m away. On the other hand, the LV-X300 is an XGA model with a standard resolution of 1,024 x 768. It can project a 150-inch image at 5.67m, and a 60-inch image at 2.27m from the screen. For entry-level users who don’t need a high resolution, there’s the LV-S300, which has an SVGA resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. It projects a 150-inch image at 5.67m, or a 60-inch image at 2.27m from the screen.

From the front, the LV-WX300, LV-X300, and LV-S300 look identical.

Last but not least, the LV-WX300, LV-X300, and LV-S300 weigh 2.5kg and measure 282 x 114.5 x 232mm each, making them easy to setup and bring about.

Update (Sep 3, 2014): The LV-S300 and LV-WX300 are priced at S$599 and S$899 respectively; both will available at Canon authorized dealers from September 12, 2014. Pricing and availability of the other projectors will be given at a later date.
