Canon Launches Two New PowerShot Cameras
Update (April 24, 2013): The PowerShot SX280 HS (in black) and SX270 HS (in blue and grey) will be available at S$449 and S$399 respectively, starting from early May 2013.
Canon has launched two new PowerShot superzoom compact cameras, the PowerShot SX280 HS and SX270 HS. Both cameras feature similar specifications, though the SX280 HS comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and GPS while the SX270 HS does not.
Sensor and Processor
Both cameras come with Canon's latest DIGIC 6 image processor, which allows for better low light performance and the capture of Full HD movies at up to 60fps. The new processor claims to be able to capture up to 30% more detail in low light situations with less noise. The cameras also sport 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensors, which coupled with the DIGIC 6 image processor, produce detailed images with a wide dynamic range.
The PowerShot SX280 HS and SX270 HS have 25mm wide-angle lenses that are capable of 20x optical zoom and also feature 4-stop optical image stabilization. The cameras can zoom another 20x further digitally with ZoomPlus as well.
The two new PowerShot cameras can also record movies in Full HD (1920x1080P) resolution with stereo sound. The Dynamic IS mode for the cameras makes use of a five-axis image stabilizer which corrects rotational and parallel shake, commonly found in footage that was filmed while walking. The rear display for the new cameras are 7.5cm (3-inch) 461k-dot LCD screens that have a tempered glass layer for more strength and protection.
The PowerShot SX280 HS also comes with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity for users to share their images social networks, connected devices and the Internet. Each image is also automatically tagged with the local time and location in which it was taken with the PowerShot SX280 HS's integrated GPS function.
Price and Availability
The SX280 HS can be found on the Canon US website for US$329.99, though there's no news of when it will reach our shores. The PowerShot SX270 HS's price and availability have yet to be announced.
