Canon Launches Multipurpose HD Lens KJ20x8.2B KRSD
Canon has launched the KJ20x8.2B KRSD, the latest zoom lens in Canon's HDgc series of portable HD lenses. Designed for 2/3-inch HD cameras, this is a 20x zoom lens which offers a 1-second maximum speed over its entire zoom range, along with a minimum object distance of 0.9M (10mm with macro). Thus, this new lens is ideal for videographers who require superior quality in applications such as wedding and corporate videos, education films, or documentaries. Weighing just 1.25kg, focal lengths range from an extra-wide angle of 8.2mm (giving a 60.7-degree angular field of view horizontal in 16:9 aspect ratio) to 164mm, with a maximum reflective aperture of f/1.9.

With tighter control of MTF (Modular Transfer Function) across the entire image plane, distortion caused by chromatic aberrations is minimized and image contrast maximized, allowing for vivid pictures. Contrast is maximized, thanks to a substantial reduction of flare, veiling glare and internal reflections. The lens offers tight control of the geometric distortion at wide-angle settings, while spectral transmittance characteristic is according to HDTV colorimetric standards. With relative light distribution optimised for more open aperture settings, uniform brightness, excellent picture sharpness and high contrast, operators can be sure of producing vividly clear HD pictures.
A new optical design includes the precision optical element and multilayer coatings, as well as Canon’s Internal Focus – a floating optical system that prevents chromatic aberrations. The lens also incorporates Shuttle Shot, an advanced digital drive system that allows operators to precisely zoom between pre-programmed focal lengths, instantly and on-demand. The KJ20x8.2B KRSD also comes with an improved ergonomically-designed Advance Drive Unit technology, which is renowned for its easy-to-grip and operator-friendly use.
