Samsung already has an extensive range of phablets and tablets covering various screen sizes and price points, but the company plans to introduce more this year.
Following the release of the company's Q4 earnings, Samsung Executive Director Hyunjoon Kim told analysts during a conference call that consumers can expect more tablets and phablets later this year.
For phablets, Samsung is focusing on devices in the 5 to 6-inch category. It is also planning to improve the S Pen and Multi-Window features. The focus for tablets this year will be bringing higher resolution displays for business users.
This is evident from Samsung's announcements at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 earlier this month where it unveiled four new tablets with high resolution (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) displays. In addition, Samsung introduced a new PRO series that focuses more on improving productivity as well as enhancing consumption of content on the devices.
It's good that Samsung is offering a range of mobile devices as consumers have more choices. However, Samsung may face an uphill task in delivering software support for a diverse range of devices with different screen sizes and processors.
