BlackBerry Priv is a surprisingly early adopter of Android 6.0 Marshmallow

If you're using the BlackBerry Priv, you should feel honored that the handset is among a small group of Android smartphones running the latest OS version.

As of yesterday, BlackBerry has released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Priv. It is noteworthy to mention only 4.6% of Android devices in the market were running Android 6.0. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 recently received the update 8 months after hitting the local market. For BlackBerry, it only took less than five months to issue the software update. Telcos carrying the handset will soon roll out the update for the Priv.

Priv users can look forward to better protection from malware, hacks and data breaches through customized personal data permissions, improved notification settings for apps, and S/MIME support to digitally sign and encrypt emails. The BlackBerry Keyboard is also enhanced with more emoji, new gesture typing, better word prediction and more accurate cursor control.

The Doze and App Standby features of Android 6.0 will help to extend battery life on the Priv. The camera is also updated to record videos at 4K (24fps), 1080p or 720p and in slow-motion.
