Biostar's AMD FM2 Socket board Hi-Fi A85X Receives Win 8 Certification, CPU Nowhere in Sight

Biostar announced its Hi-Fi A85X motherboard has been awarded Windows 8 hardware certification. The company claims that it's the first AMD FM2 socket based motherboard to garner this accolade, albeit this honor seems to be a hollow victory. This is due to the glaring absence of AMD's desktop Trinity APU whose availability has been tentatively delayed to October this year.

Like a never-ending drumroll, the arrival of AMD FM2 socket-based motherboards at retail shelves is directly dependent on the commercial availability of the AMD Trinity desktop APUs. These boards are not compatible with the current AMD Llano APUs that are Socket FM1-compliant.

The Biostar Hi-Fi A58X sports four DIMM slots that supports up to 32 GB of dual-channel DDR3-2400+ memory modules. It has three PCIe 2.0 x16 slots, three PCIe x1 slots and a single legacy PCI slot. Besides the usual standard video ports (HDMI, DVI-I and D-Sub), it has a DisplayPort output too. Storage-wise, it has eight SATA 6Gbps connectors and a lone eSATA 6Gbps rear port.
