We have actually come up close and personal with them at the recent ASUS showcase of its entire line-up of Z170 motherboards. The Maximus VIII Hero costs S$469 and is positioned as an ROG offering for the budget-conscious. As for the Maximus VIII Gene, this mATX board will retail for S$409, ideal for the gamer looking to build a SFF gaming PC.

ROG fans who are looking to stretch their dollar further, the Maximus VIII Ranger, priced at S$379, is a viable alternative to the Maximus VIII Hero. But do note, the former has six SATA III ports; in comparison, the Maximus VIII Hero has a total of eight SATA III ports, due to the presence of a third party ASMedia ASM1061 controller.
