ASUS has announced two new graphics cards, R9 290X DirectCU II and R9 290 DirectCU II, that are both fitted with ASUS's DirectCU II technology.
Running up to 20% cooler and up to three times quieter than their reference models, the R9 290X and R9 290 deliver core speeds of 1050MHz and 1000MHz respectively. With 4GB of GDDR5 video memory, these new cards also feature the exclusive ASUS DIGI+ voltage-regulation modules (VRMs) for stability and reduced noise, plus GPU Tweak, an easy-to-use tool that teases maximum performance from the GPUs and allows users to broadcast their enhanced gameplay.
With DirectCU II putting highly-conductive 10mm copper cooling pipes in direct contact with a card’s GPU so heat is dissipated quickly and with extreme efficiency, both models include a heat sink that's up to 220% larger than the stock models, to further boost cooling capabilities. They also come with a unique CoolTech fan each - consisting of a hybrid blade and bearing design, with inner radial blower and outer flower-type blades that provide multi-directional airflow to accelerate heat removal and enable more stable graphics performance.
Both R9 290X and R9 290 DirectCU II cards include a BIOS switcher on board for gamers to choose either experience fast, stable and smooth gaming in Performance mode or enjoy great gaming with minimal noise in Silent mode. Also, the GPU Tweak Streaming tool lets users share on-screen action over the internet in real time, so you can watch live as games are played. Additionally, you can add a title to the streaming window along with scrolling text, pictures and webcam images.
The R9 290X DirectCU II is bundled with a Color Match Kit comprising a choice of easy-to-apply metallic stickers in red and gold.
