ASUS Announces Upcoming ASUS P8Z77-V Premium Motherboard (Intel Z77)

ASUS has announced the ASUS P8Z77-V Premium, the latest addition to its P8Z77 motherboard series based on the Intel Z77 Express chipset. The board sports a LGA1155 CPU socket that will support the newly launched Ivy Bridge CPUs. It also promises high-end features like support for 4-way multi-GPU setup as well as an onboard Wi-Fi module for wireless connectivity.

Upon scrutiny, the board seems to feature a PLX controller to increase the number of PCIe lanes. We are unable to confirm the exact make of this controller with the provided images but it may be the PLX PEX 8608 which offers eight additional PCIe 2.0 (5GT/s) lanes to the board.

The board features an onboard mSATA SSD plugged into the header that works with Intel Rapid Start and Smart Response Technology for faster bootup and resume times. This current board appears to be a level-up from the ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe due to the new additional features which we have highlighted above.

There is a pair of Gigabit LAN ports; however, there seems to be only two USB 3.0 ports available.

To the left of the SATA connectors is the onboard mSATA SSD to make use of the Intel Z77 Express chipset's support for Intel Rapid Start and Smart Response Technology.

The board features eight SATA connectors and based on our previous experience with ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe, the greyish-white connectors are SATA 6Gbps compliant, courtesy of the Intel Z77 Express chipset. The four navy blue SATA 6Gbps connectors are supported by third party SATA controllers and the board only has a pair of SATA 3Gbps connectors (next to the mSATA SSD).

Located in the vicinity of the onboard mSATA SSD is the Thunderbolt connector (not clearly visible with the provided photos).

The ASUS P8Z77-V Premium is one of the Intel Z77 Express chipset boards to support Thunderbolt interface. This new high-speed interface is made available by ASUS for most of its Z77 and H77 motherboards. Stay tuned as we reveal more exciting details of this board in the near future!
