ARM Submits Mali-T604 GPU for OpenCL 1.1 Full Profile Conformance

ARM has submitted its Mali-T604 GPU for OpenCL 1.1 full profile conformance through the standard-setting organization known as Khronos. With this submission, the company aims to bring "desktop GPU computing features" to the mobile, embedded and SmartTV markets.

According to the company, it is the first GPU Intellectual Property (IP) supplier to submit conformance for Full Profile OpenCL, this means that ARM is aiming for the same kind of conformance that notebook and desktop GPUs are required to have, before they can claim to fully support OpenCL 1.1 specifications.

The Mali-T604 GPU will be able to perform general computing tasks like image processing and augmented reality possible because of the extended processing capacity when compared to other mobile computing processors. Hence, this means that compact and mobile devices will be able to render high-end graphics, as well as being able to leverage on the GP-GPU computing capabilities of the new GPU to run complex, highly-parallelized computing applications.
