Apple Updates Processors & Prices of MacBook Pro with Retina Display; MacBook Air Also Sees Price Drops

Apple today announced that its MacBook Pro with Retina display lineup is receiving updated processors and lower starting prices. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display that was first announced in October last year now starts at S$1,988, compared to the previous starting price of S$2,388. The CPU remains the same, which is a 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 ‘Ivy Bridge’ processor (Turbo Boost speed up to 3.1GHz) with 3MB shared L3 cache. Memory and flash storage also remain at 8GB and 128GB respectively. The higher-end version that sports 256GB flash storage gets a small speed bump (from 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 to 2.6GHz) and an even more affordable price of S$2,288 (previously, it was S$2,788).
The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display lineup won’t be getting a price cut; however, the S$2,988 base model now gets a new 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost speed up to 3.4GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache (previously, it was 2.3GHz). Also, the top-of-the-line S$3,788 model now gets a new 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost speed up to 3.7GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache (previously, it was 2.6GHz). While its flash storage capacity remains the same at 512GB, Apple has increased the RAM from 8GB to 16GB.
While the MacBook Air lineup doesn’t see any specs changes, there are price drops too. The 11-inch MacBook Air (with 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, and 64GB flash memory) now starts at S$1,348, compared to S$1,388 previously. However, the 128GB flash storage version keeps its S$1,488 price tag. On the other hand, the 13-inch MacBook Air (with 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, and 128GB flash memory) now starts at S$1,588, compared to S$1,688 previously. And the 256GB flash storage version can now be had for S$1,888 (previously, it was $2,088).
The updated MacBook Pro with Retina display and MacBook Air models are available today through the Apple Online Store and Apple Authorized Resellers.
