Apple Rumored to Release iPhone 6 in May and 12.9-inch iPad in October?
Apple is said to be releasing a larger iPhone and a 12.9-inch iPad in 2014.
According to DigiTimes, sources from the upstream supply chain claim that the 12.9-inch iPad model, also known as the iPad Pro, will be released in October 2014 to target the educational market in North America.
The sources added that Apple is planning to release a larger iPhone (commonly referred as the iPhone 6) in May 2014 which will be powered by a 20nm processor manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
The 64-bit A7 processor used in the iPhone 5S, iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina display is manufactured by Samsung on a 28nm process. The Korean Times reported in April that TSMC have begun "ordering its contractors to supply equipment to produce Apple's next processors using a finer 20-nanometer level processing technology".
This isn't the first time we heard reports of a bigger iPhone in the pipeline. Bloomberg reported last month that "a person familiar with the plans" said Apple will release two iPhone models - a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model - in the second half of 2014.
The rumored release of the iPhone 6 in May seems strange since Apple usually adheres to a one-year refresh cycle for its iPhones. As with rumors and speculation, we advise readers to take this report with a pinch of salt.
