Apple seems to be not only interested in making an Apple-branded TV set for the living room, it is also said to be exploring the idea of an Apple-branded watch.

According to Chinese gadget website Tech.163, the Cupertino-based company is in the process of developing a Smart Watch that can connect to other Apple devices via Bluetooth. Intel is reported to be involved in the project. The Smart Watch is alleged to come with a 1.5-inch PMOLED display from RiTDisplay with ITO-coated glass, and will be launched next year.

There are signs that the market for smart watches is growing as more companies unveiled similar products this year. For example, Motorola Mobility launched MOTOACTV in Singapore 7 months ago, which has a 1.6-inch full-color touch-screen display, 8GB storage and offers up to five hours of battery life for outdoor activities. The Pebble, a smart watch project on Kickstarter, turned out to be an unexpected success.

Apple is known to go into a particular market segment if it sees potential in it. While it initially refused to build a 7-inch tablet back in 2010, Apple eventually took on the 7-inch tablet market with the iPad mini this year after the increasing popularity of 7-inch tablets among consumers. While it is advisable to take this report with a pinch of salt, we will not be surprised if Apple actually builds one and launch it next year.
