Apple requires new Apple Watch apps to run natively by June

All Apple Watch apps submitted to the App Store on 1st June 2016 onwards must be native apps, according to Apple. This means that your new watchOS apps will run directly from the smartwatch itself. If developers submit new apps without making them native, the App Store will simply reject them, according to The Verge.

This is unlike watch apps from a time before watchOS 2, where the apps worked from an iPhone and the app’s contents were beamed to the wearable. With native apps being compulsory, this means that the watchOS apps will work smoother since it no longer waits for your iPhone, but it will drain more power from the smartwatch itself.

Native app support isn’t the only feature WatchOS 2 has. You can also personalize the Apple Watch by making it show a different image from your album every time you raise your wrist. There’s also Time Travel, a feature that uses the Apple Watch’s crown to fast-forward or rewind the watch up to 72 hours so the user can preview a recap or a forecast of events and the weather.
