Apple May Owe Samsung $422 Million; Judge Asks If Apple Is "Smoking Crack"?

In Apple's ongoing legal battle against Samsung, a damages expert testifying on Samsung’s behalf, told the jury that Apple may owe Samsung up to US$22.8 million based on claims that Apple infringed three of Samsung’s feature patents. A second expert further testified that damages for Apple’s infringement of two other Samsung patents could be in the range of US$290 million to US$399 million for a total of US$422.8 million.

To defend against these claims, Apple is said to have presented presiding judge Lucy Koh a list of over 20 witnesses, totaling over 75 pages of briefings. Her response to Apple's lawyers was as follows:

"I mean come on. 75 pages! 75 pages! You want me to do an order on 75 pages. Unless you're smoking crack, you know these witnesses aren't going to be called when you have less than four hours.... If it turns out I went through 75 pages for people who are not going to be called, I am going to think of a proper tax for that."

Both companies are allotted a total of 25 hours to make their cases. Samsung is down to less than an hour, while Apple has six and a half hours remaining.
