Apple Developing 4.7-Inch and 5.5-Inch iPhones for 2014?
Bloomberg is reporting that Apple has plans to enter the phablet market next year with new iPhone designs that include bigger displays and curved glass.
Citing information from "a person familiar with the plans", Bloomberg claims that Apple will release two iPhone models - a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model - in the second half of 2014. Besides sporting larger displays, the new iPhones will have glass that curves downward at the edges. The source also mentioned that the new phones are currently under development.
Apple is also reported to be testing new pressure-sensitive technology, but the company is unlikely to debut the technology on the next iPhone release. The enhanced touch sensors can differentiate between heavy and light touches.
The current generation of iPhone models - the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C - feature the same form factor as the iPhone 5 introduced in 2012. If Apple follows its tradition of revamping the design every two years, consumers may see larger iPhones in 2014.
Reuters reported in June this year that sources within the supply chain in Asia claim that Apple is exploring the idea of introducing two bigger iPhones next year. They are said to sport a 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch display respectively.
