Analysts predict a new 4-inch Apple iPhone 6C clad in metal launching next year

The Apple iPhone 6C is said to be an "extended" version of the iPhone 5S.

This isn't the first time we are hearing about a new 4-inch iPhone in the pipeline and there's a good chance that there's more to come.

According to analysts at Jefferies, Apple is working on a 4-inch iPhone 6C which will be clad in metal. Calling it an "extended" version of the iPhone 5S, the global investment banking firm believes that Apple will develop "increased hardness for the iPhone metal casing" which will require a more complex CNC and anodized process. The phone reportedly will be launched in the first quarter of 2016.

While KGI Securities shot down rumors of a new 4-inch iPhone model, other publications and sources claim that one is indeed coming. Chinese publication Economic Daily News reported last month that Apple has inked a deal with display manufacturer AU Optronics to supply 4-inch displays for an upcoming iPhone.

Mobile parts reseller Future Supplier obtained alleged plastic rear covers of the iPhone 6C in early April while industry sources told DigiTimes that a 4-inch model is coming this year. Another analyst, Timonthy Arcuri claimed in December 2014 that an iPhone 6S mini will be released in 2015.
