AMD Cuts Prices of Radeon HD 7000 Series

According to Bright Side Of News website, AMD has confirmed price cuts for some of its graphics cards from the Radeon HD 7000 series. As a sweetener to these price reductions, the company is also throwing in a trio of games with any purchase of a Radeon HD 7900 Series graphics card. In our review of NVIDIA's Kepler GPU, we remarked that AMD needs to reduce prices of its high-end Southern Islands (Radeon HD 7900 series) graphics cards in order to enjoy its first-movers advantage.

As such AMD stated, "The AMD Radeon HD 7970 is now priced at an incredible US$479 and continues to be the only enthusiast card available in volume, while the AMD Radeon HD 7950 is now an impulse buy away, at US$399, and on both of these you will see our Three For Free offer which includes Dirt Showdown, Nexuiz and Deus Ex: Human Revolution with The Missing Link DLC. And one more thing, for those looking for access to a cutting-edge graphics experience at a very wallet-friendly price, AMD Radeon HD 7770 GHz edition graphics cards will now be available at the sub-$150 (US) sweet spot, as low as US$139 SEP."

The initial launch price of the AMD Radeon HD 7970 was US$549 while the Radeon HD 7950 was retailing at approximately US$449. NVIDIA may have reclaim the GPU computing performance from AMD with its GeForce GTX 680 GPU; however, by cutting prices of its Radeon HD 7900 cards and bundling the trio of games with each purchase of those cards, this carrot may just seal the deal with some consumers. Such a move by AMD may herald the start of a multi-lateral series of price reduction as the competition between AMD and NVIDIA heats up in the coming months.
