Acer Guns for Thinnest Ultrabook Crown with Thunderbolt-Packing Aspire S5

A relatively short while back, we reported that Acer, one of the world's biggest PC vendors, has decided to shift its business strategy away from the "cheap" products it's known to build. In the same announcement that Acer's CEO JT Wang made, we also found out that the company will be placing an even bigger focus on Ultrabooks than before.

Today we set our eyes on the result of that commitment to create premium products and Ultrabooks -- the 13-inch Acer Aspire S5. Acer chose to market the SSD-equipped S5 as the world's thinnest Ultrabook (15mm) during CES.

What interests us more is the build quality of the brushed magnesium-aluminum alloy S5. The S3 was the first Ultrabook to be unleashed upon us, but it left a bittersweet taste because it showed plenty of promise, but fell short in terms of build quality.

Hopefully when the S5 reaches our hands, our impression of Acer Ultrabooks will change for the better. According to Mashable however, the more exciting thing about the Acer Aspire S5 is that it will feature a Thunderbolt port.

Details regarding the processor type is also shrouded in mystery, but since the S5 may be launching during Q2 of 2012, we expect it to pack an Ivy-Bridge processor.
