21% of All Notebooks Sold in the U.S. in 2013 were Chromebooks

According to sales figures of all computing devices (desktops, notebooks and tablets) in 2013 from the NDP Group, Chromebooks are now the greatest threat to Windows notebooks.

In 2013, Chromebooks accounted for a whopping 21% for all notebooks sold in the United States in 2013. This represents an increase of over 4700% since Chromebooks only made up 0.4% of all notebooks sold in the previous year.

Notebooks are still the best-selling class of computing devices, making up 45.5% of sales, while desktop PCs and tablets accounted for 26.7% and 27.8% respectively.

The best-selling tablet is still the iPad, which captured 59.2% of all tablet sales in the United States in 2013. However, this is down from 77.4% of last year. The drop can be attributed to the much greater number of Android tablets in the markets.

That said, the report only listed percentages as opposed to raw sales figures. Nonetheless, it is pretty amazing that Chromebooks have gained traction so quickly in the past year.
