The 2017 iPhone may not come with a physical home button

The physical home button has been a familiar feature of the iPhone since 2007 and Apple seems to have plans to remove it next year.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is already working on a major redesign of the 2017 iPhone which will see the elimination of the home button as it focuses more on the display. The information is included as part of an article on Apple planning on a new iPhone with Sony's FeliCa chip for the Japanese market.

This isn't the first time we've heard about Apple ditching the physical home button for good. In June 2015, DigiTimes reported that Apple was working on touch and display driver integration (TDDI) single-chip solutions which will allow the integration of fingerprint sensors with a virtual home button

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed in April that Apple was developing an "all-glass" enclosure for the 2017 iPhone. This is corroborated by Nikkei Asian Review earlier this month where it stated that Foxconn is working on a glass casing for the iPhone next year. A physical home button will have no place on a glass casing of the iPhone.
