Performance Redesigned

MSI’s latest performance notebook, the MSI GT660, comes packing with very decent hardware, packed in a 16-inch frame that looks capable of delivering the gaming goods. When we say decent, we’re talking about an Intel Core i7 processor, a whopping 12GB DDR3 RAM (overkill, we know) and USB 3.0 ports. Now, MSI’s notebooks have always been on the more affordable side of things, and because of that, the build and finish sometimes leaves us wanting better.

Having said that, the latest and prettiest is definitely a head turner, far different from what we used to expect for an MSI gaming grade notebook. For one, it looks slightly better designed and not as plain looking as the MSI GX400, and feels like something that Acer may have come up with, especially with the patterned textures on the surface and interior of the unit.

While the glossy surface isn’t one that we appreciate, the angular design and other touches are indicative of a much needed design upgrade that was finally fulfilled on the GT660. We’ll soon see how this notebook holds up when we put it to the test in the next few pages. For now, here are our usual exterior photo shots:-

The MSI GT660 looking all swanky and shiny.

The right side plays host to the optical drive, one USB and the audio jacks.

The left side is where you'll find the speedy USB 3.0 ports, SD card reader, a USB 2.0 port and the ExpressCard/54 slot.

At the back of the unit is where the LAN jack, eSATA and HDMI ports are located.
