HGST, a company of Western Digital, has begun shipping its helium-filled 6TB hard disk drives. First announced in September 2012, the Ultrastar He6 also features the company's 7Stac disk design, enabling it to fit 7 drive platters for a total capacity of 6 terabytes (TB).

Seagate has just announced two protection plans, which are named 'Rescue' and 'Rescue and Replace'. The 'Rescue and Replace' plan offers device replacement and data recovery for the damaged device. This plan starts at US$ 39.99. The 'Rescue' plan is a data recovery service that starts at US$29.99.

Toshiba has just launched its first 7mm thick, two-platter 2.5-inch hard drive, which has up to 1TB of storage capacity. Its small form factor is ideal for use in Ultrabooks, a category of notebooks that are extremely thin-and-light.

Seagate has just announced it has shipped over one million shingled magnetic recording (SMR) hard disk drives (HDDs). The company strongly believes SMR is the next generation storage technology that will enable 20TB HDDs to be a reality by 2020.
