Samsung Parties on!

Having introduced an avalanche of LCD and PDP televisions half a year ago, Samsung Electronics is looking to wrap up their parade of flat panels with an impressionable finale. Five 1080p models were introduced to journalists at the recent 'Party-of-5' media event last Friday, and these products will conclude Samsung's LCD lineup for 2008. Based on what we've humbly gathered, Samsung won't be inflating their PDP lineup at this juncture.

Essentially, three new LCD series have been added to the existing procession; namely Series 7, Series 8 and Series 9. More pertinently, these three IDTV (Integrated Digital Television) groups will feature Samsung's Media Solution - comprising of four key features, WISELINK Pro, DLNA, InfoLive and Content Library. You're in luck if you're an information junkie for the InfoLive feature actually streams online information via RSS feeds right onto the TV screen. To achieve this, the Koreans have aligned with Yahoo! to assemble a brand of internet capable televisions.

Mr Ki-Heung Yoon, Managing Director of Samsung Asia's Electronics Business Division telling the press how Samsung's introduction of IPTVs in Singapore is set to capitalize on new consumer trends to drive the adoption of IPTVs in the local market.

"Yahoo! aims to extend this leadership to the emerging world of Internet connected TVs and transform the experiences of millions of TV viewers globally. This partnership with Samsung through InfoLive shows us a glimpse of what is to come," says Mr David Ko, Managing Director and Vice President of Yahoo! Connected Life, Asia Pacific.

Additionally, Samsung is throwing in a new LCD 680 model to augment their existing Series 6 LCD suite. Consumers can expect the 40 and 46-inch models to hit our shores in the midst of the fourth quarter. Unlike the three new series mentioned, the 680 won't be carting the Media Solution features. However, AV enthusiasts might want to note that Samsung will introduce IDTV availability for all models launched during the second half of the year. This should save buyers some legwork from getting an additional set-top box.

Finally, Samsung also presented the Armani/Samsung Full-HD LCD TV for the fashion conscious. This all-black Armani/Samsung panel will proffer customary features like Samsung's DNIe Pro engine, 24p Real Movie conversion and a 100Hz Motion Plus refresh rate.
