One of the most important cars at the show was the new Bugatti Chiron. As the successor to the groundbreaking Veyron, the Chiron has a quad-turbocharged W16 powerplant that puts out nearly 1500hp and 1600nm of torque. This makes it the most powerful production car in the world. 0-100km/h happens in under 2.5 seconds, while 0-200km/h takes just 6.5 seconds. Top speed is limited to 420km/h. We can't wait to see YouTube videos of this car drag racing other hypercars. Read more about the Chiron here.
Lamborghini sure knows how to celebrate a birthday. Called the Centenario, this car was created to celebrate what would have been founder's Ferruccio Lamborghini's 100th birthday. Think of it as a faster, harder and more brutal Aventador. Only 40 units will be made and despite costing a cool €1.75m (S$2.65 million), all units have been sold out.
The Aston Martin DB11 marks a new era for the company. To meet stricter emissions regulations, the DB11 is powered by the company's new and first turbocharged engine. It's a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 that puts out 600hp. That's enough to propel this super GT from 0 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is over 320km/h. Bond should be pleased. Read more about the DB11 here.
The only rival to the Bugatti Chiron is Koenigsegg's new plug-in hybrid - the Regera. The Regera features a hybrid powertrain system made up of a 5-liter twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors. These electric motors are the most powerful to be used in a car and generate 700hp on their own. Together, the Regera produces 1500hp and 2000nm of torque. 0 to 100km/h takes just 2.8 seconds and the car can hit 300km/h in just 10.9 seconds. Top speed is over 400km/h. Let the battles begin!
Porsche fans have been clamoring for a racy 911 with a manual transmission and here it is. Meet the new 911 R. Limited to just 991 units, the 911 R will only be offered with a manual transmission. Yay! In addition, it's powered by the same naturally-aspirated 4-liter flat-six found in the GT3 RS. No turbos, yay again! This is truly the 911 that purists have been waiting for. Read more about the 911 R here.
In a bid to gain more customers, Maserati is launching the first SUV in the company's 100-year history. The Levante will go up against the Porsche Cayenne and Macan, as well as the Range Rover. Given the popularity of SUVs here in our tiny island country and the strength of the Maserati brand (it is Italian after all), we are expecting the Levante to sell like hotcakes.
Anybody remembers Gumpert? The maker of the hideous, but fast Apollo? Well, the company went bankrupt and has been revived as Apollo. The Arrow is their new car and it's much better looking. Using an Audi-sourced twin-turbo V8, the Arrow puts out over 1000hp and 1000nm of torque. 0 to 100km/h happens in just 2.9 seconds and top speed is 360km/h. Perfect for anyone who thinks Ferraris and Lamborghinis are too mainstream and soft.
Can a supercar ever be practical? McLaren sure thinks so. The new 570 GT features a second luggage compartment in the rear, just above its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8. The second luggage compartment offers 220 liters of storage space, which is more than enough for weekend jaunts or for trips to the grocery store. But because this second luggage compartment sits right above the engine, we'll probably pass on the ice cream if we were you.
Has anyone ever looked at their Bentley Mulsanne and thought, "Man, I wished it was bigger. It's so cramped in the back." The answer is apparently yes, because Bentley just announced a new 6.4 meter long Mulsanne Grand Limousine. This new car is nearly a whole meter longer than the standard Mulsanne.
How about something that you can maybe finally afford? The Abarth 124 Spider is a souped up version of the Fiat 124 Spider, which is in turned based on the new Mazda MX-5. In any case, power is now up to 170hp and it gets a mechanical LSD, Brembo brakes, Bilstein dampers and a really loud exhaust. The great thing is that it costs just under £30,000, which means it'll still be relatively affordable once it gets here.
