Olympus Showcases Eleven New Cameras

On the hunt for a new compact camera, or taking that step into the DSLR region? We think it's time to reveal some of the choices coming from the Olympus engine. The folks at Olympus showed their hand during an earlier media session and boy did they. How many, you ask?

When we counted, we saw eleven new digital cameras, ranging from its super zoom Olympus SP590UZ, to the ultra durable Olympus Mju-TOUGH 8000, and not forgetting their DSLR entries such as the Olympus E-620. So sit tight, as we give you a quick rundown of the devices that will be heading your way real soon.

Clockwise from top left: Olympus ESP590UZ, Olympus Mju-1070, Olympus E-620 and Olympus Mju-TOUGH 8000. There's an Olympus for everybody out there. Which one will be yours?

Olympus SP590UZ

Super zoom cameras have become a popular pick amongst consumers these days. And Olympus definitely wants to get into that trend with the introduction of their new super zoom series, the Olympus SP590UZ. Going beyond the 20X optical zoom range, the new SP590UZ will have an optical zoom ratio of up to 26X on its wide-angle 26mm lens. And if you need more, you can opt for its digital zoom that goes up to 130X.

Features-wise, the SP590UZ is definitely well-equipped. For the enthusiasts, you'll be pleased to know that the super zoom device also comes with a bokei function built in. For those who didn't manage to catch on, this means there's a "background defocusing" function that highlights your subject image in the foreground, while providing less focus to the background.

According to Olympus, the Olympus SP590UZ will be available at a price of S$698, though its retail availability hasn't been fully confirmed.

Olympus FE-3000

From the super-zoom range, we move onto something more down to earth. Focusing on how fun and easy digital photography can be, the Olympus FE-3000 will do away with all the frills and hassle of adjusting your settings with its Intelligent Auto mode. Furthermore, the FE-3000 comes equipped with a 10-megapixel sensor and face detection that can track up to 16 individual faces for better facial focus on each face.

The Olympus FE-3000 is now available at a price of S$258.

Olympus FE-45

When it comes to being budget-friendly, the Olympus FE-45 definitely takes the cake. Though it does not have most of the snazzier features found in the higher end Mju or Mju-TOUGH series, the FE45 should be able to handle itself well enough with its 10-megapixel CCD sensor and 3X optical zoom for average photography needs. What's more, the FE-45 belongs to the AA club, i.e. AA battery powered. In the traveler's eyes, the flexibility of getting new and fresh batteries should your current ones run out of juice should do the trick.

The Olympus FE-45 will be available at a budget-friendly price of S$198, though its retail availability date hasn't been ascertained yet.
