IDF Spring 2006 - Merom, WiMAX, UMPC and Viiv

Concept Montevallo and the Ultra Mobile PC

Concept Montevallo and the Ultra Mobile PC

The three UMPC designs we've all seen again and again. At least they're all operational now.

What's new to the Monahans XScale mobile processors.

The UMPC designs we saw at IDF were identical to those that we've already seen last year, though we managed to get to play around with working models running on Pentium M's and Intel 915 chipsets. What was interesting though was the two new Concept PCs codenamed Montevallo that was previewed. The thin and light 12-inch model was designed to work in limited space environments like airplanes, but features extensive technologies like WiMAX and two-2.5-inch HDD RAID setups.

Looks like a monitor, but this is actually the 14-inch Montevallo concept notebook.

Remove it from its docking station, the screen move across the keyboard for a variety of options including for presentation with the keyboard at the back or totally flat as a tablet.

Montevallo 12-inch concept has an LCD that can be extended and tilted for ease of use.
