Nehalem now comes to laptops with Intel's latest introduction of its Intel Core i7 mobile processor and Intel Core i7 mobile processor extreme edition today. This would effectively replace the current Penryn-based quad core processors in the performance laptop segment. The Nehalem architecture would also bring with it better memory latency performance since the processor comes with it an integrated memory controller.

The Core i7 will be paired with the new Intel PM55 Express chipset which will provide the laptop with up to six SATA 3Gbps ports, 14 USB 2.0 ports and eight PCIe 2.0 x1 ports. Of course when implemented in a laptop, the chipset would be an overkill, but you can get an idea of what the chipset will bring to these range of laptops.

Mooly Eden, general manager, PC Client Group, senior vice president, displays the mobile version of Intel's new Intel Core i7 processor and the Ibex peak chipset.

The Core i7 mobile processor will come with a whole host of technologies including Intel Turbo Boost Technology and Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. Unlike the desktop counterpart, it will only support up to two channels of DDR3 memory but at a higher speed of 1333MHz. It will also support one full x16 PCIe 2.0 graphics or two x8 slots. This flexibility gives OEMs the option to pick an SLI configuration for users who want an extreme gaming experience.

With Hyper-Threading technology, laptops equipped with the Core i7 would come with eight process threads. This is the first time you'll find notebooks with that kind of parallel performance. According to Intel, it's so fast that it will even outperform the previous generation of Xeon processor. Given Turbo Boost, its performance will scale even further when only a single core is in operation.
