Gear this week: The gear you’ll need for Pokemon Go

Xiaomi Power Bank

This game is going to drain your phone’s battery, so it’s a good idea to bring a power bank to recharge. We’d go with the 20,000mAh or 16,000mAh power banks with dual USB ports if you’re hunting with friends, the 10,000mAh one if you’re hunting alone.

Chun Cui He Milk Tea

What better way for Pokemon hunters to stay hydrated than with a drink that’s as hard to hunt down as a Snorlax? Chun Cui He Milk Tea and Latte from Taiwan arrived on our shores in July, and has been consistently sold out in many 7-Eleven stores.

Available (or not) in 7-Eleven stores across Singapore.

Panther Vision Powercap

Wandering outside at 1AM chasing after an elusive Hitmonchan? Stay safe with a Panther Vision Powercap, which comes with built-in LEDs to light the way, and reflective material to make sure motorists and cyclists see you coming. The women’s version even comes in Pokeball colors.

Pokemon iPhone case

You’ve probably never held your smartphone this long before Pokemon Go, so you’ll want to make sure it’s properly protected from accidental falls. Defend your phone and show you’re part of the tribe by rocking this Pokemon iPhone case.

Samsung Gear IconX

The Gear IconX fit right in your ears, streaming music via Bluetooth cordlessly. The earphones are their own fitness trackers, so you can keep track of the distance you’ve walked and the calories you’ve burnt on the S Health app. An ambient sound mode helps you stay safe, by letting you hear your surroundings while still listening to music.

Amazingthing Pokeglass screen protector

In case you can‘t shoot straight, the Amazingthing’s amazing Pokeglass screen protector can help you make every throw a straight one. The glass protector is made from Japan with a high level of hardness to protect your iPhone from damage, and measures only 0.33mm thick. There’s full support for 3D Touch, as well as an anti-fingerprint coating for all the swiping and tapping you’ll be doing.

Energea Nylotough charging cable

This short charging cable for microUSB, Lightning and USB-C connectors keep your smartphone and power bank tight together to avoid dangling wires and drooping devices. A twist-braid design reinforces the cable to keep it extra sturdy.

#ICYMI

Three things this week.

First, Pokemon Go dropped in Singapore over the previous weekend and swept across the nation like Hello Kitty.

ION Orchard became the first official PokeStop (yes, that is a silly name), SingtelM1 and StarHub announced that they will be releasing thousands of lures near their stores’ locations this weekend. Check out the HWZ Pokemon Go forums thread for the latest Pokemon updates, and if you have no idea what a Pokemon even is, much less why people want to Go there, start with this list of beginners’ terms and concepts.

Second, after Final Funan, we wonder if Marina Square is turning into the next tech mall. The mall has a new IT zone called Avenue 10, with ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo concept stores, a Newstead multi-brand outlet, and the first Sennheiser brand store. Nearby at Millenia Walk, Harvey Norman just opened a Games Hub with a VR area where you can try the HTC Vive.

Third, Singapore celebrated its 51st birthday on Tuesday, and HardwareZone celebrated its 18th on the same day! Happy birthday to the Lion City, HWZ, and everyone else born on the 9th of August.
