MSI N285GTX-T2D1G-OC Super 1GB GDDR3

First up is MSI's insanely overclocked N285GTX-T2D1G-OC Super (henceforth known as N285GTX-OC). Of the two cards on hand here, it has higher clock speeds and should therefore, barring any major hiccups, be the faster of the two. It comes out of the box clocked at 720MHz at the core, 2600MHz DDR at the memory and 1566MHz at the shaders. The substantial bumps in clock speeds should also see the MSI N285GTX-OC comfortably outperforming a reference GeForce GTX 285.

The MSI N285GTX-T2D1G-OC Super comes in the same MSI packaging that is used for their high-end cards. The box has a convenient handle for you to carry, which is a pretty nice touch.

The MSI N285GTX-T2D1G-OC Super looks like any other GTX 200 series card. Peel the sticker away and you wouldn't be able to tell one from the other.

These were what the MSI N285GTX-OC came with:

  • Driver CD
  • Quick installation guide
  • A copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 game
  • 1 x DVI to VGA adapter
  • 1 x DVI to HDMI adapter
  • 2 x Molex to 6-pin PCIe power connector
  • 1 x S/PDIF cable
  • 1 x S/Video out
  • 1 x HDTV cable

ASUS ENGTX285 TOP 1GB GDDR3

Like any GTX 200 series card, the ASUS ENGTX285 TOP looks no difference from its abovementioned MSI counterpart, save for the sticker on the cooler. Underneath though, the ASUS is more conversatively clocked. Overclocked it is, but "only" at 670MHz at the core, 2600MHz DDR at the memory and 1550MHz at the shaders. With exception of the core clock speeds, the ASUS ENGTX285 TOP is pretty much on par with the MSI N285GTX-OC.

Not to be outdone, the ASUS ENGTX285 TOP comes in an equally big box, featuring what looks like a Death Knight with gold wings, which is rather apt, we suppose.

The ASUS ENGTX285 TOP looks just like the MSI N285GTX-T2D1G-OC Super save for the sticker. We await the day a custom cooler appears on a GTX 200 series card.

The ASUS ENGTX285 TOP came with the following:

  • Driver CD
  • A copy of ASUS GamerOSD utility
  • Quick installation guide
  • An ASUS leather mousepad
  • 1 x DVI to VGA adapter
  • 1 x S/PDIF cable
  • 1 x HDTV cable
