MSI and Hardware Zone also put up a demonstration of their latest MSI 5000X Speedster server board equipped with the latest quad-core Intel Xeon X5355 2.66GHz processors. This little demonstration is a little different this year because unlike all the overclocking that others are doing (which we think is great but highly unpractical), we chose to demonstrate the power of multi-core processing. Whether you like it or not, multi-core PCs will be the trend next year and beyond, and that is really the way to increase the computing performance of the PC.

Now, with eight processing cores, how do you actually make full use of it? We took the system, installed the latest Windows Vista Ultimate in it and then created two other virtual machines using VMware Workstation 6. One of the virtual machine was an Ubuntu Linux Desktop and the other was based on the older Windows XP. Both virtual machines were made to run tasks, as if they were another two other PCs, while the main base system was running a multi-core benchmark simultaneously. All three instances of the operating system executed flawlessly. This little demonstration showed how a typical power user could make use of Intel's virtualization technology to do more on his multi-core PC, by running other operating systems at the same time (without the hassle of configuring a multi-boot system). Basically, the idea is to do more in a single machine. More performance with less hardware, and much less power.

The MSI EX600 notebook comes with a large 15.4-inch wide screen display and is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G 256MB graphics. The notebook is based on Intel Centrino Duo technology and it comes with a 1.3Mpixel webcam.

The MSI GX600 may look like just another 15.4-inch wide screen notebook based on the Intel Centrino Duo technology. However, this notebook features the world's first laptop with a Turbo button that overclocks the processor on demand, with a single touch of a button. The notebook is based on the Intel PM965/ICH8-M chipset and is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 512MB graphics memory. The notebook also comes with a 1.3Mpixel webcam and an external eSATA port.

The MSI GX610 is powered by an AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile processor. This laptop may look tame, but its built-in Radeon HD 2600 graphics with 512MB HyperMemory should be able to tackle most 3D games.

The MSI GX710 is a gaming notebook that features Intel's Centrino Duo technology using the Intel PM965/ICH8-M chipset. For graphics, you'll find an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPU with up to 512MB memory. This full DirectX 10 supported notebook comes with a large 17-inch wide screen LCD display, 1.3Mpixel embedded webcam, HDMI output, 4.1-channel speakers and an optional TV tuner.

The MSI GX710 is built for gaming enthusiasts as it comes with an AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor and an ATI Radeon HD 2600 graphics with 512MB HyperMemory. This full size notebook comes with a large 17-inch wide screen display, 1.3Mpixel webcam, 4.1-channel speakers, HDMI output and an optional TV tuner.
