Computex 2012: Gigabyte
Computex 2012: Gigabyte
For 2012, much of the buzz surrounding Computex has had to do with Windows 8, tablets, touch-enabled Ultrabooks and tablet/notebook hybrids. However, as one of the so-called “Big Three”, Gigabyte shows that core hardware components such as motherboards still have a part to play in the future of computing.
At this year’s show, Gigabyte announced their lineup of Thunderbolt-enabled motherboards. Although Thunderbolt-enabled motherboards are not entirely new, Gigabyte takes this concept further by offering at least dual Thunderbolt ports on their new offerings. This means their motherboards will be able to support a maximum of up to 12 Thunderbolt-equipeed devices by means of daisy-chainning (each port can support up to six devices).
Elsewhere, Gigabyte also announced their new Ultra Durable 5 technology for their motherboards. We’ve covered their new technology extensively earlier, but in summary, the breakthrough innovation is the use of an all-new single package, single silicon MOSFET design capable of handling up to 60A and providing up to 30% lower operating temperatures. They have also breathed new life into their Super Overclock series of card by introducing the fearsome-looking and simply massive GeForce GTX 680 Super Overclock.
Furthermore, Gigabyte has also announced a slew of new mobile computing systems. Their ultra-light X11 Ultrabook is he lightest 11.6-inch Ultrabook in the world, thanks to a full carbon fiber construction. Apart from that, Gigabyte is also one of the earlier brands in the market with a notebook featuring NVIDIA’s new GeForce GTX 660M mobile GPU.
Over the past few days, Gigabyte has demonstrated that they are a company that puts the needs of consumers above everything else. To that end, they have also told us that, moving ahead, thet are committed to putting their money into R&D and providing the best possible components rather than pursue frivolous marketing campaigns.
