Canon Singapore Announces 20 New Products

Sponsored by the Camera & Imaging Products Association, CP+ - a major camera and photo imaging show in Japan - is now in its second year. It has replaced the now defunct Photo Imaging Expos (PIE) to become the go-to camera show in Asia. It’s also the only camera and imaging trade show in the first half of the year.

This year’s CP+ was held from the 9th to the 12th of February at the Pacifico Yokohama convention center, in the city of Yokohama (which by the way, is the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo). Approximately 80 exhibitors (brands from Japan as well as those outside Japan) spanning approximately 750 booths were present to showcase their latest and greatest products.

Canon Singapore was also there to show selected Southeast Asia media their newest digital imaging products. Here's what you need to know about their new products which amount to 9 camcorders, 2 DSLRs, and 9 compact digital cameras. So keep a look out for them in the retail stores and the forthcoming local tech shows.

LEGRIA & Professional Camcorders

The LEGRIA HF G10 is the flagship model of the new LEGRIA lineup. It uses the new HD CMOS PRO sensor (2.37 megapixels), and a 30.4 mm wide-angle, F1.8 lens with 8-bladed iris. Also making its debut is Cinema Style that consists of three tools: Story Creator (tips on scenes for easier story-telling), Touch Decoration (for adding animation, stamps, frames and messages in real time), and Cinema-Look Filters (eight filter effects). Controls are aplenty too: it has manual aperture, shutter speed and gain controls, a manual focus ring, and a Custom Key and Dial. It also comes with 32 GB of internal memory and dual SDXC-compatible slots. A wireless microphone (WM-V1) and a 5.1-channel surround microphone are also available as optional accessories.

Also announced is the XA10 pro-level, ultra compact AVCHD camcorder. It uses the same HD CMOS Pro sensor (that has a pixel size 2.6x larger than typical CMOS sensors) and 30.4 mm wide-angle lens with 10x optical zoom as the HF G10. Its other highlight is the multifunction, detachable handle. When attached, it expands audio performance with an XLR terminal, microphone holder, and other features. It also comes with a built-in infrared lamp for low-light shooting and light diffusing. Other features include Cinema Style, manual shooting controls, assignable buttons, 64 GB internal memory, dual SDXC-compatible slots, and up to 24 Mbps recording.

A size comparison between the XF305, XF105, and XA10.

The LEGRIA HF S30 is a Full HD 1920 x 1080, high-end camcorder. It uses a Canon 10x HD Video Lens and a 8.59-megapixel CMOS sensor. Other pro-level features include color bars and Zebra patterns, Remote Control Terminal (supports LANC protocol) and 24p recording.

The LEGRIA HF M41 (black) and M400 (silver) are Full HD 1920 x 1080, flash memory camcorders that use Canon’s large HD CMOS Pro sensor (2.07 megapixels for movie), and a video lens that has an iris diaphragm. Both models come with two SD slots, Relay Recording function that switches recording from one card to the next automatically, high quality microphone, Canon’s new Story Creator, Cinema-Look Filters, and Touch Decoration functions. The M41 also has a sliding, 260,000-dot electronic viewfinder and 32 GB internal memory.

Both sport 20x optical zoom, 3.28-megapixel Canon Full HD CMOS sensor, 3.0-inch touch LCD, Touch Decoration, Relay Recording, and internal HD-to-SD down-conversion.
