App Attack #020: Android Profiling

App Attack #020: Android Profiling

Profiling Your Moves On Your Android

Hate to be the only one whose phone is ringing during meetings? Want to set your Android smartphone to silent? Require your Bluetooth to be switched on during a certain part of the day? Worry no more - here are some apps that can do the trick.

Llama Location Profiles

Price: Free
Category: Tools
Platforms: Google Android
The Llama is, as advertised on the Android Market, a location aware mobile app. Hence, it is important to allow the app to learn places you frequent because what it does here is to use phone masts to determine where you are. From there-on, you can activate profiles according to locale and time of the day.

Sound profiles can be customized to set specific ringtones at varyingly levels of volume. Events can be created as well, allowing users to specify actions when certain conditions are met, e.g., killing apps when battery is lesser than 50% or starting up the music player when a headset is connected.

The app can be quite confounding to new users but it earns cookie points for its comprehensive selection of settings.

Auto Calm

Price: Free
Category: Tools
Platforms: Google Android

The AutoCalm app pretty much does what it starts out to do (judging from its moniker) – which is to configure your phone to silent or vibrate mode during certain events. The simple app can be synced with any Google calendar of yours (shows up to 4 weeks’ worth of events) and is able to set events to either modes at one shot.

Otherwise, if most calendar events don’t require phones to be silent, the app also allows you to silent your phone according to an individual day’s worth of events instead. Other features include creating your own sound profiles.

RingWise (Auto Silencer) Free / RingWise (Auto Silencer)

Price: Free / S$1.63
Category: Tools
Platforms: Google Android

The RingWise app is similar to Auto Calm with some exceptions. The free version works well enough but if you have the extra dollar to spare, we suggest spending it on the full version. Additional features include allowing users to monitor more than one calendar synced with your Google account, receiving missed calls and SMS alerts after each event and more.

Otherwise, the free version is pretty straightforward and only requires a few clicks and checking a few options to complete setup.

Toggle Settings: Profile Lite / Toggle Settings: Profile

Price: Free / S$3.77
Category: Tools
Platforms: Google Android

The Toggle Settings: Profile (Lite version) is in itself a rather comprehensive app that allows you to easily select from a set of eight preset profiles that is best for you at any given point in time.

You can edit the profile too of course, according to your preference. The app also gives you quick access to running tasks and important settings (WiFi, Bluetooth, Volume, Screen brightness).
