The 8 Star Wars collectibles to give fans this Christmas

Star Wars: The Last Jedi theatrical poster.

Beyond Star Wars, December is also the season of giving. And if you are still scratching your heads over to what to give to your Star Wars-crazed nephew, colleague or spouse, we're sure this guide will help.

1. Hot Toys 1/6th Darth Vader

This could very well be the ultimate 1/6th scale Darth Vader figure.

Hot Toys is arguably the premier manufacturer of 1/6th scale figures. And after years of waiting, they have finally released their take on Darth Vader. There have been 1/6th scale Darth Vaders in the past, most notably from Medicom and Sideshow Collectibles, but this is the one fans have been waiting for.

This is Darth Vader as he appears in Episode IV: A New Hope. He stands approximately 35cm tall and will therefore be in scale with other Star Wars figures from Hot Toys. He also comes with over 30 points of articulations, which will allow fans to easily recreate his signature poses from the movie. And what’s super cool about him is that he even comes with built-in breathing sound effects!

The Hot Toys Darth Vader is scheduled to be released soon and should retail here for around US$267 or about S$380 locally.

2. Nendoroid Darth Vader

Get your spouse excited about Star Wars with this super cute Darth Vader.

The majority of our readers are male, and we are guessing that most of you are having a hard time trying to get your spouse or significant other excited about Star Wars. Help is the on the way!

Enter the Nendoroid Darth Vader. Nendoiroid is a line of figures from Japanese collectible manufacturer Good Smile Company that have enlarged heads and small bodies so that they look cute. And doesn’t Lord Vader look adorable here? He even comes with a display stand with a mini Death Star and also a variety of interchangeable hands for various poses. You can find him quite easily now at most collectible stores for around S$65, but hurry, popular Nendoroid figures usually sell out in a jiffy.

3. Lego Millennium Falcon 75105

"You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon? It's the shop that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs."

Few space ships are as iconic as the Millennium Falcon, and you can now build your very own with the new Millennium Falcon set from Lego. Diehard Star Wars Lego fans will know that there’s an older Millennium Falcon model (7965), but the newer model (75105) is said to be even more detailed. Look closely and you'll find that this new Millennium Falcon is slimmer. The cockpit is also detachable and has space for two minifigures, while the top and bottom laser turrets both rotate and have space for a single minifigure. Inside, there’s even a holochess board, a more detailed hyperdrive engine, secret compartment, extra boxes and cables.

Of course, no model of the Millennium Falcon will be complete without figures of Han and Chewbecca. And since this is based on the The Force Awakens movie, it also comes with figures of Rey, Finn, and the BB-8 Astromech Droid. You can buy it online from Lego for US$149.99, but stocks seem limited ever since the new movie was around the corner. It's also tricky to get it locally, but stocks should be back soon.

If you have a large showcase area and you don't mind waiting even longer, then you should definitely keep an eye out for the 7,500-piece UCS version of the Star Wars Millennium Falcon that measures 21cm high, 84cm long and 56cm wide! Listed for US$799 (or about S$1,200++).

4. Sphero BB-8 Astromech Droid

You can have your own BB-8 droid too.

If you have seen the new series of Star Wars movies, then you would have noticed the new BB-8 Astromech Droid. You know, it’s the one that looks like a far more mobile version of R2-D2.

If you thought it was cool, the good thing is that you can have your very own. The Sphero BB-8 Astromech was something we saw at IFA 2015 and it’s a miniaturized version of the BB-8 droid you saw in the trailers. But it’s more than just a mere prop, the Sphero BB-8 droid actually moves, thanks to an internal gyroscope and magnet. Plus, it even has a personality and will show a range of expressions and even perk up when you give it voice commands. You can even set it to patrol around your home autonomously or guide it yourself via an accompanying smartphone app.

You can get the Sphero BB-8 droid from most major retail stores locally or online for US$149.99 (S$211).

5. Ultra Saber Lightsaber

With Master Replicas’ revered Force FX line of lightsaber now but a distant memory, the next best alternative is Ultra Saber’s lightsabers.

To be sure, these aren’t official licensed Star Wars merchandise, so you won’t see recreations of Darth Vader’s or Luke Skywaker’s lightsabers like the Force FX series. Despite this, they are the coolest lightsabers we have come across. Most of all, unlike the Force FX lightsabers, these lightsabers were designed for combat. Well, you can’t really kill anyone with it, but you can use two of them to stage a fight - something that you couldn’t do with the delicate Force FX lightsaber.

There are a ton of designs available and demanding fans can even custom build their own lightsabers with their choice of hilt, lightsaber color and even sound board for enhanced sound effects. Get your own lightsaber here.

6. Han Solo Fridge

We have no doubts that this will increase the hip factor of any room. It stores drinks too as a bonus!

If you really want to be respected as a Star Wars fan, you’d need one of this in your room. It’s a model of Han Solo frozen in carbonite, but it also doubles up as a mini-fridge. The drop-dead cool design aside, this fridge is also pretty practical. It can hold up to 18 cans of drinks and has warm and cool settings to keep your contents either warm or cold. It also has red LED lightings which can be turned on to great effect in the dark. Finally, the Han Solo fridge was also designed to be portable as it weighs just 4.4kg and has a handle for easy transportation - great for showing off to friends at parties. You can get from ThinkGeek for US$159.99.

7. Kylo Ren Mask

Go watch The Force Awakens as Kylo Ren! Sound like him too!

Notice how Star Wars villains are usually masked? Kylo Ren, who appears in the new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, also wears a mask. We don’t know why for now, but it is said that he is a big fan of Darth Vader and models himself after him. The cool thing is that you can dress up like him too with this Kylo Ren voice-changing mask.

It features adjustable straps for a secure fit and comes with a cloth hood. A button allows you to speak Kylo Ren phrases and another changes your voice so that you can be like the man himself. You can get it from the Disney online store for US$24.95 (S$35), though we are pretty sure you would be able to find it in most major departmental stores here soon as well.

8. Hot Toys 1/6th Luke Skywalker Figure(Deluxe Version)

Yes, the latest movie will make you want to collect a Luke Skywalker figurine.

While Darth Vader is arguably the most iconic character from Star Wars, Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) played a pivotal role in the latest movie, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In fact, it could be argued that this is Mark Hamill's beset performance ever onscreen and that elevates his character to be a really cool figure. To that extent, Hot Toys has a one-sixth scale collectible figure of Luke Skywalker that's almost lifelike in resemblance, complete with meticulously tailored outfit, poncho, lightsaber and a variety of accessories. The Deluxe Version even comes with a very detailed backpack, lightning rod, and even a Porg!

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker is back trending the online social buzz and the Hot Toys Luke Skywalker Deluxe edition makes a fantastic collector's item. It's currently on pre-order status and it's not expected to arrive until late 2018. Fortunately, it's not too expensive and it's going for US$245. You just have to be as patient as Luke and Yoda to get it.

P.S., last year we featured the limited edition Mandalorian armored Boba Fett bronze statue, but that has since been out of production.
