Google recently launched Google WiFi Passport in Jakarta, Indonesia, that provides free and affordable wireless online access through designated Wi-Fi hotspots. This service is only available to Android users, whose devices are running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above.

According to Bloomberg, HP is trying to find potential buyers for its portfolio of mobile patents including those related to WebOS, the smartphone and tablet OS that HP acquired when it bought Palm Inc. in 2010 for US$1.2 billion.

Nokia just took the wraps off its first Windows tablet, the Lumia 2520. It runs on Windows RT 8.1, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2GHz processor, 2GB RAM and sports a 6.7-megapixel rear camera with F1.9 and Zeiss optics.

Apple has hired Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts as its new SVP of Retail and Online Stores. Ahrendts became Burberry's CEO in July 2006, and has held various senior positions in the fashion industry, and will transition to her new role in spring of 2014.
According to technology news website All Things D, Apple will be announcing iPad updates during an invitation-only event on 22nd October. (Update: Apple just sent out invites for an event on 22 October.)

Microsoft has officially detailed what's new in the upcoming Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update. The third and last update of 2013 will bring support for larger and higher-res screens, quad-core processors, as well as a handful of features such as Driving mode, improved Internet Sharing, and screen rotation lock.
