Sony announces the launch of new 4K and Full HD Action cams

We first covered news of the FDR-X1000V and the HDR-AS200V action cameras in our CES coverage here, and now we’re pleased to update that both models will be available for purchase in Singapore from 9 April.

As mentioned in our earlier coverage, the FDR-X1000V is a 4K-capable camera that features an ultra-wide Zeiss Tessar lens that has a 170-degree field of view, a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, SteadyShot image stabilization, and the company’s Bionz X processing engine. It uses the same full pixel readout technology as some of Sony’s other high-end cameras, allowing the camera to read and process data from all of the sensor’s pixels to create exceptionally smooth, highly detailed 4K and HD videos.

It also gives impressive slow motion footage in Full and standard HD at 120p and 240p respectively, while the microphone now has wind noise reduction capabilities giving improved audio performance. The X1000V also has an expanded scope of manual controls and setting adjustments, including white balance and auto exposure shifting, and loop recording is also possible.

Meanwhile, the HDR-AS200V is a full HD model that shares many features and technologies with the FDR-X1000V, including a built-in GPS, and the Action Cam Movie Creator software. The AS200V shoots at up to full 1,080p HD/50Mbps video at 60p, 720p HD video at 120p, and WVGA video at 240p.

Also released, is the new Live View Remote RM-LVR2. This works with either camera, and straps onto your wrist to allow you to easily start/stop recording, review movie footage or check your framing, and delete unwanted files. Waterproof up to 3 meters, the RM-LVR2 keeps going even when you’re doing water sports.

Both cameras and the RM-LVR2 Live View Remote will be available from 9th April in Singapore at all major authorized retailers.

The FDR-X1000V will retail for S$649 (body only) or $749 if you include the RM-LVR2 Live View remote, either way, you’ll get a free 64G microSD card and accessory battery kit.

The HDR-AS200V on the other hand, will retail for S$479 (body only) or $579 if you include the RM-LVR2 Live View remote, either way, you’ll get a free 32G microSD card and accessory battery kit.
