Sony adds two new Zeiss Lenses to the A-mount line-up.

Two new fast zooms have been added to the Sony A-mount line-up which should certainly delight photographers - the SAL2470Z2 Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM II and the SAL1635Z2 Vario-Sonnar T* 16-35mm F2.8 ZA SSM II.

The SAL2470Z2 should be a perfect complement for photographers on the a-system.

The SAL2470Z2 measures 83x111 mm (diameter by length), weighs 974g, and covers a convenient wide – mid range of focal lengths with a bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, making it a perfect choice for all your everyday photographic needs. Be it low-light portraits, twilight scenes, or dim interior shots, the SAL2470Z2 will handle it all. Meanwhile, the SAL1635Z2 weighs 872g and measures 83x114mm (diameter by length). It’s a large aperture wide-angle zoom that lets you go even wider for handheld shooting in poorly lit interiors or for capturing bustling street scenes.

The SAL1635Z2 is great for wide-angle shots even at lowlight.

Both lenses feature Zeiss T* coating to help reduce ghosting, as well as a dust and weather resistant design so you can use them under any conditions without fear, and an improved Super Sonic wave Motor system that increases the autofocus accuracy and speed. Compared to their predecessors, the new lenses deliver approximately four times the tracking speed, making them ideal for fast moving subjects. Finally, aspherical, ED and Super ED glass elements give superior contrast, resolution and color while providing optimal aberration suppression.

While pricing information has yet to be released, both lenses are due to be released in select Asia Pacific countries from May, so we’ll be sure to update you with more information as soon as we get it.
