PSA: You should update your iPhone to iOS 9.3.5 now

TL;DR: Launch Settings, go to General, tap Software Update, and install the latest iOS 9.3.5 now.

Three previously unknown ‘zero-day’ exploits have been spotted in the wild, making it possible for a hostile agent to take over victims’ phones by tricking them into clicking on a link.

This is according to reports from Lookout, a cybersecurity firm, and Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs.

Ahmed Mansoor, a human rights activist from the United Arab Emirates, received a strange text message on his iPhone, which contained a link. He sent the message along to Citizen Lab, which together with Lookout, found that the clicking on the link would enable an attacker to get full control of the victim’s iPhone.

After the researchers informed Apple, the company released a patch to fix the three zero-day flaws. This is update iOS 9.3.5, which you should install on your iPhone ASAP.

Motherboard has a fascinating piece with more on the attack, and the group behind the exploit.
