AMD accidentally reveals existence of the Radeon RX 490 in game giveaway

The Radeon RX 480 just launched last night, but we woke up to news this morning that AMD had somehow let slip the existence of an RX 490, a presumably higher-end card.

The US$239 Radeon RX 480 (for the 8GB version) is already quite a compelling choice for budget gamers, and might even be AMD’s strongest play yet in this market segment. Still, despite announcing the RX 460 and RX 470 over at E3, it looks like the company may not be as done with the RX 400 series cards as it seems.

The mention of the Radeon RX 490 surfaced in a listing on the AMD We’re in the Game promo page. Clicking on a button to check your eligibility called up a long list of eligible cards, including all the new Radeon RX 400 series models. But there was also a listing for a yet-to-be-announced RX 490.

We don’t know anything about the card now, and AMD has since removed the listing. The company isn’t likely to comment on the card’s existence until an official announcement, but the leak pretty much confirms that a more powerful Polaris card is on the way.

Having said that, AMD isn’t likely to be pleased with the slip up. The Radeon RX 480 has just launched, and it probably doesn’t want potential buyers holding off in the hopes of getting a more powerful Polaris part soon.
