3 things to buy from Qoo10: 2nd August 2016

MTL, BBB from Qoo10!

Qoo10 says it's Singapore's number 1 shopping site; and looking at the thousands of items listed on its website, it's not difficult to see where that confidence comes from. If you're itching to buy something today, here are three you can consider.

1.) Beko 610-liter fridge ASL141

While Qoo10 is made up of tons of small, mostly unheard of shops, truth be told, it does have its fair share of well-known retailers. If you’re looking to get a fridge and are willing to take your chance with a brand you may not have heard of, Parisilk is selling a giant silver-color, 610-liter, 2-door (side-by-side) fridge by a brand called Beko for S$999. (If you prefer the fridge to be in black, you’ve to add another S$200.) Delivery (on floors that the lift can get to) and installation is free. Maybe because it’s from Parisilk and there’s local warranty, this Beko fridge seems to be very popular (read the comments), and Parisilk is now listing a delivery lead time of up to 10 working days.

2.) iFlashDrive

Do you've a 16GB iPhone and are looking to expand that storage to carry more photos and videos? One option would be to get one of SanDisk’s latest and rather excellent iXpand Flash Drive solutions. Don’t wish to fork out so much moola? A more affordable alternative would be something like this iFlashDrive, which costs just S$19.90 for the 32GB version, S$33.90 for the 64GB version, and S$55.90 for the 128GB version. Sure, the product itself and the app don’t look as sleek as SanDisk’s ones and it most likely can’t transfer files at USB 3.0 speeds, but let just say I’m inclined to overlook these shortcomings because of its price.

3.) Xiaomi Mi Band 2

A lot of people like Qoo10 because they can find here products that have yet come to Singapore, with many willing to pay even when there’s a price markup. The 2-month-old, 0.42-inch OLED screen-equipped Mi Band 2 is one example. An IP67 water and dust-resistant fitness tracker, the Mi Band 2 sports an improved pedometer algorithm and optical heart rate monitor versus the Mi Band Pulse; is able to track your sleep patterns; and has a vibration motor for calls/text alerts. In China, the Mi Band 2 costs 149 Yuan (or about S$30), but for those who don’t have friends there to ship one over, and can’t be bothered to wait any longer for Xiaomi to release it here, there’s a shop on Qoo10 selling it for S$53 if you opt for a store pickup. Yup, that's a steep markup, so consider this a public service announcement for those who die die must get it, instead of a deal for bargain hunters. For overseas folks reading this, third-party resellers at places like Geekbuying and Amazon are selling the Mi Band 2 anywhere between US$40 to US$50.

Also, remember that for such "export set" purchases, don’t expect to get support and warranty from the original manufacturer (in this case, Xiaomi Singapore). There may be several stores on Qoo10 selling the same export set items, some cheaper than the others, so you’ve to make your own judgement call, too.

Update, 10 PM: Updated article to clarify Mi Band 2's reseller pricing.
