STGCC 2015: Toys, toys and more toys - Star Wars

There was an immense queue waiting for the doors to open with lines snaking out of the main convention center and into the exterior of the building.

The Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Convention has been an annual event for the past few years. While nowhere near as big as US conventions like the SDCC or New York Comic Con, for local toy enthusiasts this IS the place to be for the year. Despite the name though, the focus of the convention is clearly on toys, as games and comics are in the minority. In fact, this year's biggest gaming attraction is the Magic Origins booth and there's pretty much no representation at all for the electronic gaming side of the industry.

Planeswalkers duel it out in the Magic Origins booth.

As we missed out on last year's convention, we decided that it was high time to revisit the event and see if it's as great as the one we went to in 2013. While there's a dearth of cosplayers (at least during the time we were there), the good news is that there are tons more toys this time around, from old-school figures to ones from the latest games and anime.

This year's STGCC was mainly dominated by two brands; Star Wars and Marvel. As such, we've dedicated a page each for the figures from each brand and a third page for everything else.

So without further ado, scroll on down to see some of the more interesting sights we saw from our stroll through the convention halls.

Star Wars

Somebody should tell Jabba to guard Han Solo more closely. He's liable to be freed by somebody in disguise.

Even a chibi version of Vader is scary. Very cute though.

The Death Star trench run, part of a massive diorama.

A massive Star Wars diorama, recreating some of the scenes from the movies.

Kylo Ren vs Darth Maul? We'd pay to see that! Seems like Jabba's running a satay stall in his spare time too.

The original Star Wars cast from Episode IV. The droids seem to have gone off somewhere.

The 1/6 recreation of the Falcon's main hold is immense and incredibly awesome!

All that's missing is Alec Guiness' voice telling Luke to use the Force.

The 1/6th scale of the cockpit of the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is awesome too! Where are Han's lucky dice though?

Not everything is old school. There were also figures of Kylo Ren and the new Stormtroopers.

The new TIE Fighter looks cool but that weird red spot is a bit awkward.

Same thing with the new X-Wing. Love the black, not digging the orange parts.

More vehicles from the new Trilogy. We wonder what that Y-Wing looking ship is called? It looks like a compact version of the Rebellion's bomber.

If your tastes are more towards modelling than figures, might we suggest this kick ass Bandai X-Wing 1/48 scale model?

Looks like the Empire finally found the droid they're looking for. Or rather Singapore's chapter of the 501st Legion did.

While the Star Wars galaxy might be far, far away, it seems like the figures have no trouble making their way to earth. Up next, Marvel and Back to the Future!
